The Crippling Effects of Too Much Karate

October 06, 2021

The Crippling Effects of Too Much Karate. A saying that I cannot give proper attribution to goes this way, “A wealth of information causes a poverty of wisdom.” Data, information, and wisdom. Data, we have no idea what it is it lacks context. Information has context, we may know where it came from or who handles it. Wisdom is a leap across the ocean in the difference of quality. Wisdom is about the contextualizing of the information. How it gets implementing by the interpreter.

Bumper Sticker Wisdom

The Crippling Effects of Too Much Karate

The crippling effects of too much information gets a reducing to simplicity. That simplify is bumper sticker wisdom. Bumper Sticker wisdom is simplistic. Bumper sticker wisdom works and because it sticks in our brain. Because of the simplicity, Bumper Sticker phrases are passing for wisdom. An example is, “A Black Belt is a White Belt that never quit.”

It’s a Dog

The physiological word game of, I say cat, you say dog. The association of the words is not about being correct, but being easy. Today we have the classic analysis paralysis on full-tilt. We have that ability to go to a party and hear the words, “Well actually…” based on a new version of information and data.

We Have Been Lied to Before

Don’t forget the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave us the now-debunked Food Pyramid. A simple shape, easy to remember, a name that sticks, and the power of the government telling you this is what to do. And we did it. We taught it in schools we were reading about it in books, and seeing it on film and screen.

The idea of researching has reached a level of inability of getting to a conclusion in some instances. Too much information, too much information on YouTube, and you have the crippling effects of too much karate. What are you supposed to be looking at? What are you to train?

You Can Get Hoodwinked!

And I also share a story in the attached podcast of how made a mistake. In writing in a book from some twenty years ago I repeated a story that made sense until it was exposed as a falsehood, and urban myth.
