Episode 033: Dr. Brad Miller – Imagine Teaching Lean and Loving Every Minute of it!

March 29, 2016

Today's guest is Dr. Brad Miller, who is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Bauer College of Business at The University of Houston. Brad shares his experiences with lean and continuous improvement that he has learned in the manufacturing world. His goal is to help his students gain an understanding about lean systems tools, kaizen, quality tools, operations management concepts and the theory of constraints to enhance the operating performance of manufacturing systems. He especially enjoys utilizing his business experience to demonstrate how lean concepts can be utilized both in business settings as well as students' everyday lives.

Today Brad and I talk about:

The application of lean principles to his home life to solve problems
The pitfalls of when you apply lean principles to just one area within a business and how it can create even more waste
How the actions of managers have impact on the people that are working in their system
What happens If you don't change the structure of your process when making changes
Why improvement of your processes can't be delegated or copied
Why efficiency may not always serve customer needs.
Motivation theories based on the scientific method and how it applies to kaizen
