Kick It With Donna episode 47 - Freedom from Helpaholism
The Big “F”.  Freedom from helpaholism.  What is that you ask?  Many of us suffer from this desire to help others when the help was never asked for in the first place.  I am a helpaholic.  Are you?

My guest today is Margery Miller, a self named "helpaholic".  She came up with the term when she realized that the help she offered to others was not appreciated and, therefore, not taken.   Didn’t they realize that her help will make a difference with their problem?  She could see it so clearly, why can’t they?  Maybe because they didn’t ask for help in the first place.  Watching others not take her advice created stress and anxiety.  That’s when she realized that it wasn’t about them, it was about her.  Margery made a choice to set herself free from helping others who don’t ask for it.  Boy, how freeing that is!

Margery offers three steps to help you if you suffer from being a helpaholic:

1.  What’s in it for me?
2.  Stop taking responsibility for others.
3.  Be kinder to yourself

Margery is the founder of Great Girls Network.  This is a group of amazing women who share their happy, sad and challenging life experiences  at once a week track meetings that focus on transitions, growth and wellness.  Check out greatgirlsnetwork.org
