Help Wanted

Sermon from March 30, 2014

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.  “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.  I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

16:7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.  And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;

13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

And the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove.

And you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.

• He will TEACH you and help you REMEMBER all the things Jesus said.
  
• He will bring CONVICTION of right and wrong.
  
• He will GUIDE you in to truth.

  • The Holy Spirit EMPOWERS us.
    

    Galatians 5:19-24 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
    

    
    
  • The Holy Spirit EMBOLDENS us.

  • The Holy Spirit ENLIGHTENS us.
    

    1 Corinthians 2:10-12 NLT But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.
    

    
    
  • The Holy Spirit ENLISTS us.
    

    Acts 13:2-4 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.†3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
    

    
    
  • The Holy Spirit EQUIPS us.

HELPERS WANTED – Hebrews 6:10  God is fair; he will not forget the work you did and the love you showed for him by helping his people. And he will remember that you are still helping them.
