How To Stand Out In The Soup With Author, Keith R. Fentonmiller: Ep. 246

October 13, 2017

“Clones fit in. Freaks stand out. Ask me which one I prefer.” -- Joanne Harris

On this episode Tim and Jelly are joined by the author of Kasper Mützenmacher’s Cursed Hat, Keith R. Fentonmiller. As a debut author, Keith has joined an increasingly crowded soup of authors. What can you do beyond tweeting out your Amazon link and begging for reviews?
We talk about what authors and business owners can do to stand out in that soup because writing a great book is just not enough.

Tips From This Jellysode:
Start with a high quality book or product.
Establish your unique voice and apply it to your brand.
Reduce the crowd by narrowing your audience. Your book is not for everybody.
Be patience and commit to the long haul. You build a reputation and an audience one drop at a time--book events, guest blogging, blogging, podcasts, social media presence, speaking events, local papers, live video, working with influencers, and seeking partnerships with complementary groups and organizations.
Have a stellar online presence: Be consistent with your branding and social media. Respect your readers and potential readers.
Make it easy for people to buy your book. Make sure direct purchase links exist on all your website pages and social media platforms.
Take advantage of your email signature with tools like WiseStamp.
Sponsor a small or local conference. Here is one: The Possibilities Conference
Advertise on podcasts.
Get people reading your book. Give away your book to friends and associates that have a strong online presence. Include a letter with how they can help you by posting a photo on Instagram and provide them with the appropriate hashtags. **they should disclose that they received the book for free**
You can find Keith on his website, and buy his book on Amazon. Please follow him on Twitter and like his Facebook page too!
