Ep 2 Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Spectrum Management At Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

July 05, 2018

Dr. Neil Shear, Professor of Medicine ( Dermatology), and Pharmacology (clinical pharmacology and toxicology) at the University of Toronto and the current President of the Canadian Dermatology Association is one of the authors of the manuscript titled “Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis Spectrum Management At Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre : Our Multidisciplinary Approach After Review Of The Current Evidence” published in our March\April 2018 issue, Volume 22, Number 2 .

Doctor Shear and his co-authors Doctors Mereniuk, Jaque and Jeschke outline their clinical approach to the management of these critically ill patients and emphasize the importance of the dermatologist in their care. Doctor Shear and his colleagues skillfully guide us from the initial assessment to the times when dermatologists working in a collaborative group can add significant value to the clinical care and final outcome for these patients.

In this episode, we speak about the obvious practical issues of skin care but also highlight the often-overlooked mucous membrane involvement of the eyes and genitalia. We also delve into the controversies surrounding the use of systemic therapy.
