Facebook Dislikes the “Dislike” Button

December 16, 2014

IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL HEAR ABOUT:

The ongoing debate for a higher character limit on Twitter
YouTube testing Autoplay feature that will play another video when the video ends, instead of showing you the Recommended grid, which it is currently. The challenges for YouTube is to improve the algorithm that determines the next video without ruining the user experience. Similar test performed earlier showed a net increase in time per visit, but a significant number of users hated it.(via TechCrunch)
Facebook introducing ability to target News Feed posts by Interest. Publishers will be able to also assign a post end date, allowing them to create ephemeral posts. Mark Zuckerberg recently mentioned that Facebook wouldn't introduce the Dislike button because it's too negative. There was also a bug on Facebook's end that was underreporting mobile traffic referrals. Interesting how that went unfixed for such a long time.
The Wakie app is a social alarm clock app where users call each other on the phone through the app to wake up strangers with a phone call. Will the novelty wear off or is this here to stay? We'll never know!
