Eric is the president and CTO of Manager Mechanics LLC, a company specializing in Information Technology (IT) leadership development training and the governing organization for the Information Technology Management and Leadership Professional (ITMLP©) and Information Technology Management and Leadership Executive (ITMLE©) certifications. Eric is also a nationally syndicated columnist, entrepreneur, speaker, award winning author and trainer in IT management skills. By pioneering IT leadership education in traditional classroom settings, as well as online platforms and advanced virtual worlds, Eric's team provides strategic education to firms who value superior IT leadership, a strong teamwork ethic that can reduce friction, reduce confusion, IT innovation for competitive advantage, and planned succession to consciously control recruiting and retention.

In episode 45, Tony and Eric talk about how managers should lead. Eric says that the best way for managers to manage is by example. This is what is usually being done right now by great leaders and it is really working. He says the basic principle of this is treating people how you want to be treated. Regardless if it’s virtual teams or actual professional services teams, managers must keep that in mind. Eric also explains that if you want to lead, you have to have a destination in mind, something that you are headed toward. This destination must be properly articulated through professional communication skills, that is why leaders must be good communicators.

Tony and Eric also talk about how the dynamics of the team has evolved over the years. Eric says that what is being done right now by people is that they focus more on the individual performance of each member and not on the teamwork. It has become much less about the team and more about the individual which can really hurt project implementation strategy and process involvement. Listen to this week’s episode of Impact Teams Radio as Implementation Rabbi Tony Sherman and Eric Bloom discuss about leading by example.
