Empowered by God

January 26, 2015

When we consider following Jesus and fulfilling the mission we called to, we are faced with the reality that Jesus’s ministry was summed up well in the gospel of Matthew. It say ” Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed the.” (Matthew 4:23-24)
Matthew continues to tell us that Jesus commanded the twelve (Matthew 10:7-8) “As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give, and finally commissioned them to  (Matthew 28:18-20) “then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
How can we obey the commands of Jesus to “make disciples” without the power to accomplish the mission. Much of Christianity today, presents a powerless gospel focused more upon “good works”  and programs rather than the obvious power we see demonstrated in the scriptures and church history.
It is time to reclaim and proclaim the message of Jesus with the demonstration of the power of God to heal and set lives free.
