2022 Chevrolet Silverado Review, Prices, Trims, Pics And Specs

January 31, 2022

The 2022 Chevy Silverado headlines the first-ever ZR2 trim option.

This is in addition to a slew of newly upgraded interiors, technology enhancements, and more.

And while it’s all good news for Chevy’s top-seller.  It’s the factory-lifted serious off-road-ready ZR2 that might excite the most.

Because even if you’re not an off-road enthusiast, the overall halo effect of the tech trickles down to everything else.  Both on and off-road-related.

ZR2 All-New For 2022

New Stuff For 2022 Chevrolet Silverado Full-Size Pickup

With the ZR2 trim, Chevy equips Silverado to roll off the factory assembly line, directly to serious off-roading.  And that’s a first with 2022.

Also, an updated premium interior is standard on the LT trim and above.  Plus, if you’re going with the High Country trim Super Cruise is available.

On top of all that, the Bow Tie factory spruces up a couple of engine options.   For instance, the 2.7L turbo gets 20-percent more torque.  And the 3.0L turbo-diesel gets a towing capacity of up to 13,300 lbs.

Trims, Cabs, Beds, And Prices

Chevrolet delivers something for everyone in Silverado.  Because there are countless ways to option a Silverado.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado Trims & Starting MSRPs:
  • Work Truck $36,700
  • Custom $39,900
  • Custom Trail Boss $45,300
  • LT $43,700
  • RST $46,300
  • LT Trail Boss $52,500
  • LTZ $50,200
  • ZR2 TBA
  • High Country $54,700

Special Editions

Also, we cannot forget the Special Edition packages that Chevy offers.  But it’s only on select trims.

Nevertheless, those Special Editions include:

  • Realtree Edition – designed with hunters in mind.
  • Redline Edition – sporty red and black accents.
  • Midnight Edition – think blacked-out sporty appearance.
  • Rally Edition – on-road/street-focused and sporty.

Cabs And Beds

As part of your trim and optional Special Edition that you select.  You also have to factor in the cab and bed options you’d like in your Silverado.

First cabs, you have three options.  There’s the regular cab.  The double cab.  Or, the crew cab.

Also, you have two different bed options to go with.  So, the short box is 69.9 inches and the long bed is 79.4″.

And of course, not all bed and cab configurations are available with every trim and Special Edition.

Engines, Transmissions, And Fuel Economy

As part of all the above decisions, there’s the engine and transmission config.  Furthermore, all of it impacts your fuel economy.

2022 Silverado Engines
  • 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder – 310 horsepower / 430 pound-feet of torque
  • 5.3L V8 – 355 hp / 383 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.2L V8 – 420 hp / 460 lb-ft of torque
  • 3.0L Turbo-Diesel – 277 hp / 460 lb-ft of torque

Transmissions

Finally, the two different transmissions that Silverado offers for 2022 are an 8-speed automatic and a 10-speed automatic.

But let’s not forget your final-final decision in all this and that’s whether to go with two or 4-wheel drive.

Also, the maximum trailering capacity is 13,300 lbs.

MPG

With the seemingly countless number of configuration options, Silverado’s MPG fluctuates as well.

However, no matter what, the full-size Chevy pickup delivers excellent fuel economy.

And that’s an EPA estimated average of 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway.

What Does 2022 Chevy Silverado Look Like?

The appearance of the ’22 Silverado is similar to last year with some aesthetic enhancements.  Most notably a new front fascia.

Overall, it’s unmistakably of the Bow Tie brand.  And with all the configuration options it’s whatever you want it to look like.

So, you can make it look (and act) like a serious off-roader.  But you can also make it act (and look) like a serious street crawler.

Or you can go WT-style (work truck) and focus on the daily grind – Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs style.

Inside 2022 Chevrolet Silverado

Because of its size, access, and overall comfort, hopping into a Silverado is a pleasure.

And pickup’s full-size stature is really appreciated when you get in.  It’s just accomodating and spacious.

Furthermore, Chevy makes great use of space inside Silverado.  Extra storage nooks can be found throughout the truck.

The center console folds up into a 3-row front bench.  There’s storage both under and inside the backseats.  And the double glove box is another handy feature.

Technology And Safety

Highlighting the upgrades for 2022 Silverado has to be the available Super Cruise driver-assistance tech.

To be clear it’s available only with the High Country.  But Super Cruise offers a glimpse of tech that, I think, we can expect to trickle down into lower trims soon.

Chevy calls Super Cruise the first ‘true hands-free’ driver assistance technology.  But it’s only on ‘compatible roads.  And there are currently about 200,000 miles of compatible roads in the US and Canada.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado Top-3

With all the enhancements for Chevy’s 2022 full-size pickup, across all trims, my Top-3 was a tough pick.

  1. Versatility – It’s hard not to appreciate all that Silverado can do.  People hauling, stuff-hauling, towing, and doing it all in style.
  2. Interior – I love the inside of Silverado.  Cavernous and great use of space through smart technical engineering.
  3. Tech – Silverado was well equipped in the tech department before 2022.  But now with Super Cruise, it’s next-level.
