Topic: Defining what the horse posture of Basic Balance looks like, as a long but balanced frame, but more importantly what Basic Balance feels like when the coordination comes together. What we are calling the posture of Basic Balance is the minimal coordination that is mechanically efficient and supports the long term health of our horse. While the postures of extension and long and low can hold some benefits, they are both considered unbalanced postures because they are not supportive of long term health. We can shift between postures during the process of developing Basic Balance, but ultimately when we have issues with steering, speed adjustments or uncomfortable gaits, then we know that we still need to seek the coordination of Basic Balance for our horse’s soundness and health as much as our ease of riding.
