Topic: When we look past our horse’s behavior and look deeper into the intentions of our training program, we begin to clearly see the moments that personal thresholds come up. It is in these moments that we can react, often creating more resistance and problems, or we can step back and observe. When we pause long enough to observe our horse’s energy, body language and behavior we see where our horse can say “yes” to what we request and where our horse starts to say “no”. We can bring to our own awareness what we are feeling, thinking or doing that might be helpful or not helpful to the situation. By recognizing and respecting individual thresholds, we move through each threshold, one at a time, until new skills replace old fears, challenges or moments of instability. This is what makes training stick!
