Topic: We look at the relationship of saddle fitting, saddle fitting issues and how our horse uses the back – all in relationship to each other – and throw in how the rider can make things worse or better. A well constructed saddle that is symmetrical can be a useful tool for helping us see and understand internal dysfunctional use of our horse’s body. The saddle does not move by itself. Custom fitting or adjusting our saddle in order to stabilize on a chronically crooked horse or one with a dropped back only locks our horse into these dysfunctional problems more. Instead we can use our “saddle fitting issues” to see what we might need to help our horse change while training or riding, in order to help our horse improve balance and restore healthy use of the back muscles.
