Topic: With horses things will always go a bit wrong. It is not the fact that challenges cross our path, but how we recover from difficulties when they do. Resilience is “the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulty.” Instead of thinking that we need the perfect horse or perfect situation, we build resilience for life’s challenges by making sure we also have plenty of time feeling safe and feeling comfortable on the other side of the equation. The same is true for our horse. The more minutes that our horse spends feeling safe and comfortable with us, the faster our horse can recover from unexpected challenges or less than ideal environments. With trust, our horse can handle a lot more of life’s unexpected events because feeling safe and comfortable most of the time is what makes our horse more resilient too.
