HPH 010: Hypnotherapy - Why You Should Give It a Go

January 21, 2015

In this episode, I’m exploring the applications of hypnotherapy. I asked Andy Thatcher from the Chippenham FM internet radio to interview me. Andy by his own admission had very little knowledge of hypnosis and hypnotherapy prior to this interview so I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Basically, the first documented use of hypnotherapy was around 1500BC in ancient Egypt, even though the modern hypnotherapy wasn’t really outlined as a therapeutic system until the 18th century. So hypnotherapy has been around for a while and is increasingly being seen by the general public, and health professionals, as an effective therapy for a wide variety of psychological and behavioral issues, and to assist various psychosomatic health problems. It actually has been described as the most effective method known to mankind to uncover and use the deep potential of the mind for therapeutic change and for personal development. There is an abundance of clinical and experimental results that confirm the efficacy of hypnotic procedures for many applications. Just to clarify, hypnotherapy is a therapeutic use of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state for our mind to be in and as such is essentially safe. In fact, compared to many orthodox clinical methods it is remarkably risk-free.

The actual mechanisms of hypnosis and its effectiveness are not yet fully understood but this is hardly surprising given how much we still don’t know about the human nervous system and psychological processes. So research in this area continues but we do know that significant changes occur in the nervous system when attitudes and beliefs are changed in human beings, and hypnotherapy is a powerful method that helps to induce that change. Enjoy!
