DNS servers and Internet Exchange Points (IXs) were crucial elements of the early Internet—without these, the entire Internet as we know it probably would not have happened. NETNOD and LINX were two of the earliest IXs in Europe, and NETNOD ran one of the earliest DNS resolvers in Europe, as well.
