Episode 2 – I’mma Try To Be Funny This Time

April 05, 2015

I know the tone of the first/previous episode was somewhat negative and monotonous so I really put a lot of effort into trying to change things up for this episode, I hope you all enjoy and thanks for giving me another chance!

I want to apologize in advance for the sound quality, this is actually my second version of the podcast, I recorded a whole podcast and wasn't happy with how it went, so I kind of rushed through a whole second recording without checking on quality. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure the next episode is top notch!

TOPICS

Touching back on last week’s topics:

Governor of Indiana trying to backpedal and explain that state’s new Religious Freedom law isn’t anti-gay, yet can’t say “yes” or “no” when asked is it anti-gay.
Arkansas passes the same damn law.
These laws are un-fucking-necessary: the first amendment already guarantees freedom of religion.
Penn Jillette on CNN: “These people are not being asked to engage in gay sex, they’re being asked to sell flowers and cake.”

California governor Jerry Brown orders more prison cells be built in order to handle the growing # of death row inmates.

In 2014, a federal judge declared the California death penalty system “cruel and unusual punishment”. The same judge reduced an inmate’s death sentence on the same grounds, for having been on death row for almost 20 years (sentenced in 1995).
California hasn’t executed anyone in over 10 years. What’s the fucking hold-up? Is it the appeals process? How about instead of spending more tax dollars on expanding capacity, we clear up the fucking back log???
Only 13 people executed since California approved the death sentence in 1976. Texas, by comparison, puts away 13 people A YEAR, on average.
Ballot measure to speed up execution process and shorten appeals failed to make the ballot in 2014, organizers will try again in 2016.
Death sentence in question ever since Oklahoma botched lethal injection execution (inmate took 43 minutes to die).

Botch may be result of prisons trying out different drugs, as the original manufacturers of the (formerly) most used anesthetics have stopped making their drugs in protest of capital punishment (pussy Euro companies).
One reason why we need to start manufacturing more here in the U.S. again, and relying less on foreign products.

Final thought - the main snag in the capital punishment system is that executions need to be “humane”. Why?? We are ending the lives of convicted murderers and rapists, if anyone DOESN’T deserve to be treated humanely, it’s them. Besides, there’s nothing humane about killing.

Controversy over new Daily Show host Trevor Noah’s “racist” and “sexist” tweets and stand-up bits.

“If a woman is loved correctly, she becomes 10 times the woman she was; so she gets fat?” - clearly a mathematical play on words and not a fat joke
“Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn’t look before crossing but I still would’ve felt so bad in my German car”
“South Africans know how to recycle like Israel knows how to be peaceful” - South Africans have a negative view towards Israel because Israel supported apartheid.
NY Times article (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/01/arts/television/trevor-noah-new-daily-show-host-comes-under-scrutiny-for-tweets.html) brings up question of why Trevor’s Twitter account wasn’t “vetted”; brings up alarming point that Noah may be censored by Comedy Central in the future, as far as what he tweets or even what he might say in future stand-up shows.
Both Comedy Central and Trevor Noah have publicly declared that being judged on a handful of jokes is unfair.
Final thought - people in this country need to grow thicker skin
