Pyronauts Episode 33: Kojima’s Particular Brand of Wacky

April 10, 2015

Yes, yes, we’re late, it’s my fault, blah blah blah. I doubt anyone is even surprised any more, right?
We kind of get hung up on just a couple of things in this episode – the news that Hideo Kojima has left or been ousted from Konami, and the recent Halo news.
Kojima has been with Konami for several years, and to be honest, neither Andrew or myself could really think of another real “flagship” franchise that they own apart from Metal Gear Solid, so the fact that Kojima will be parting ways after Metal Gear Solid 5 comes out is a bit of a shocker. With that being said, it wasn’t really a surprise for either of us, given that we’re not fans of Kojima’s particular brand of wacky.
Halo 5 has been confirmed to be coming out on the 27th of October this year, but possibly more interesting than that (not that it would be hard) is the recent unveiling of Halo Online, a PC-only free-to-play multiplayer game set firmly and officially within the Halo universe, but only available in Russia for now. We get into a bit of a discussion over what that might mean for the Halo franchise and for PC games in general, given that Halo has been console-only for a decade or so now.
Alongside that, you’ll find the usual blend of inane ramblings and the two of us going off-track far too easily that you’ll have come to expect.
