Google Analtyics from the VERY beginning

March 09, 2015

Google Analytics – Let’s start at the very beginning with WHERE are your anlaytics?

Can you access them?

How do you set up a fresh account?

How do you manage users?

This and basic logic and terminology explained for Google Analytics.

06:54 Existing sites with Analytics – where does the code go?

09:59 Setting up a new site in Analytics from scratch

10:45 Decide who the main account holder will be.

12:20 Set up a fresh account in Analytics

13:00 3 columns: Account | Property | View – we are covering the first two only

18:22 User Management – make sure you have the correct rights for the correct people for Accounts & Properties – check them from time to time and don’t be so generous with full access.

1. DO YOU HAVE analytics already on your existing site?

2. Do you have ACCESS to the Analytics account?

3. Can you be invited in as administrator by the person who set it up?

4. Can they transfer ownership to you so you can control managers, etc.?

5. If you don’t know if you have them, ask your current webmaster to check the code for you. It will be in the HEAD, or if you use WordPress or similar CMS backends, you may have a field in your THEME for the code. It looks something like this:

(example)

6. If it is there and you have access, you need to go to http://www.google.com/analytics/ and login with your account info that has access to the analytics. If you are an administrator with your own email, login as you. If you have another more universal login, logout of Google and login as THAT account.

NEW SITE FROM SCRATCH:

1. Do you already have google Webmaster tools?

2. Are you using Google Apps and having them host your mail?

3. If 1 and 2 are YES, which account is the master email account used for the control panel or an administrator’s one?

4. If you don’t know this and cannot find that information or access it, those are different issues for another show.

5. If you DO know this, then it’s time to get started.

6. go to http://www.google.com/analytics/ and login with THAT account.

7. Verify you don’t already have analytics set up just waiting to be added to your new site.

8. If you do not, time to add a site to analytics.
