Internet Archive Appeals Against Copyright Infringement Ruling #1712

December 18, 2023

The Internet Archive (IA) is appealing a court ruling that found its digital lending program copyright-infringing. IA’s non-profit library scans and lends physical books digitally, allowing only one patron at a time to borrow each digital copy. IA argues that its activities are fair use, promoting knowledge sharing without harming authors or publishers. The appeal stresses the importance of IA’s service for the future of libraries globally.
