GTC242: Buckeyes Sharp. Browns Sloppy

October 27, 2015

Summary
The Buckeyes looked sharp in defeating Rutgers with JT at the helm. But the Browns turned in a dud in St. Louis with penalties and turnovers that were hard to watch. But it’ll be better now that the Cavs are back! It’s GameTime!

Hosts: Mike Kresic, Tom Kresic

Running Time: 44:48

1Q: Tristan is in the fold for Cavs

It took months to complete, but Tristan Thompson has signed a multi-year deal with the Cavs
Not much different than what the Cavs offered him 4 months ago and not the max deal he had been demanding
Still feels like an overpay for a guy with limited offensive skills and a bench player
Will fans expect more from TT this year? Will they be as forgiving when he’s throwing bricks from the free throw line?

2Q: What To Expect from the Cavs

Season opens with a back-to-back, both road games: Chicago (Tues) & Memphis (Wed). Home opener is Friday against Miami.
Kyrie likely out until January. We’ll see if Love is fully healed. Shump injured. Mozgov ailing.
But this team is loaded:

Big Three: Lebron, Irving and Love
Big Men: Mozgov, Wild Thing, Tristan, Sasha Kaun
Guards: Mo Williams, Delly, Shump, JR Smith
Other Bench: Richard Jefferson, James Jones, Joe Harris

3Q: Browns are a hot mess

Rams 24, Browns 6
Lost track of the penalties, especially by the offensive line.
Too many turnovers in this one.
The Browns never really got close to scoring a TD in this one. They started many drives at or inside their own 20. And usually went backwards from there.
McCown hurt late in this one. Checked out negative for concussion, but injured his shoulder.

4Q: Buckeyes Rolling

Ohio State 49, Rutgers 7
The switch at QB paid off against Rutgers, but most of JT’s offense early on was him running, not passing in this one. At least until late when they started to get each of the guys their own touches.
Barrett: 14/18, 223 yds, 3 TDs passing, 13 rushes, 101 yards, 2 TDs on the ground
Zeke strong again. 19 carries for 142 yards, 2 TDs.
Only punted once.
Was this the best showing from the defense this year?
Rutgers only 5-15 on 3rd down. 12 first downs all game. 189 yards passing.
