GOR S2E08 – Asymmetrical Assumptions

May 29, 2015

We're used to playing multiplayer games where the objectives are the same, and the sides are equal. Take checkers for instance. Each player has the number of pieces, and the same rules of movement and engagement; and the game is played on the same board. But what happens when the players in a multiplayer game don't share the same objective, or if the rules for each side aren't identical? This week, we scratch the surface on understanding and balancing Asymmetrical Multiplayer. We debate the definition of the term, and use examples like Starcraft, Left 4 Dead, and Pac-man Versus as our anchors. On top of all that, Harold plays Assassin's Creed 3, Jason refines his deck (literally), and Jon gets around to playing the game of the month ... of May 2014.
