Hiring Talented Team Members To Stay Competitive

July 17, 2014

I’ve recently been talking about the influx of veterans who are leaving the military, coming home and looking for job opportunities. I mentioned how there will be some lag time between folks that are looking for jobs immediately after coming home and those who are going directly to attend university or trade schools to hone their skills. I will tell you, there are plenty of businesses

out there that are looking for new team members that will help them to meet their strategic business visions. Veterans are in a position to strengthen and push forward many industries in the near future.

COMPETITION IS GOOD BECAUSE IT SPURS INNOVATION

With these skillful veterans joining business teams, we can expect to see competitors that are very innovative. This increased competition is a good thing, since it is what drives our capitalist economy. The free market is able to spur innovation by favoring the companies that do the best work out there. That is why I love the way our economy works—as a business owner, I need to innovate or see myself being surpassed by my competitors. This mechanism of competitive spirit allows us to move forward as a society.

TECHNOLOGY IS A DRIVING FACTOR

I’ve talked in the past about how we can leverage human ingenuity along with technology that is rapidly improving. If we do this, we can provide our customers with better products and services. Whether it’s in the public or private sector, having a more efficient way of doing things  helps companies gain marketshare. It could be your own business or a competitor that figures out a better way to do things, but that’s the exciting part of being an entrepreneur. Technology is moving at a rapid pace, and it is critical for businesses that want to stay  innovative to keep up with the changes. Businesses that don’t stay at the forefront of technology will end up being left in the dust.

The effects on our economy as a result of government downsizing and veterans returning home won’t be immediately visible. In my opinion, we will see a steady but gradual rebound as time goes on. While the economy isn’t nimble enough to turn on a dime, it is robust. Even at our worst point during the economic downturn, we were still a strong global financial force. The US Dollar was able to maintain its status as the de facto currency worldwide, even at the worst part of our economic struggles. This gives me confidence that we will continue to solidify our economic leadership position in the future.
