This Memorial Day We Remembered Our Comrades

May 27, 2014
Then We Celebrated the Treasure of our Country’s Bounty

Invocation Military Academy Appointment Ceremony

Yesterday, 26th of May 2014, I had the high honor of presenting the invocation at the Military Academy Cadet and Midshipman Appointment Ceremony.  It is hosted every year by the Senior Senator of Texas, John Cornyn.  For the past five years I have had the privilege of serving on his Military Academy Selection Board.  Every year we are challenged to select the top candidates among the best and brightest young citizens our country has to offer.  I will argue fervently against the cynics out there that our country is strong.  It will remain so as long as our fellow Americans continue to join our all-volunteer armed forces.  And good parents from across this land guide and allow their sons and daughters to apply themselves toward a most honorable pursuit of leadership in the defense of our Nation.  I am proud to be an American.

Below is the invocation I delivered to the group of over 100 Cadets and Midshipmen selected to attend our various US Military Academies.

Military Academy Cadet and Midshipman Appointment Ceremony

Invocation

Good Afternoon,

Bow your heads and pray with me.

Oh heavenly Father, the source of all goodness and compassion. We thank you for allowing us all to gather here today to commemorate two important and solemn events. The first, is our joining together to celebrate the memories of our fallen comrades from every generation past. Celebrating them, which were the bravest amongst us who without hesitation sacrificed so much in the defense of this Great Nation and for the call of Freedom. We remember that they served willingly for love of Country, Family, and their comrades. We remember their strength and use it as a source of continual inspiration for us and all who continue to don the uniform of our armed forces. We humbly appeal that you allow perpetual light to shine upon them.

Lord, we also ask that you protect these young men and women with a shield of strength and perseverance as they embark on their journey toward becoming officers in our Country’s Armed Forces. They are the newest and the smartest treasure we have to offer as our future vanguard in the protection of this nation. Father, as they begin their instruction at their respective academies we ask that they soak in each lesson they are given by those officers assigned to teach them the art of leadership and awesome responsibility of command. Father, place within their hearts the wisdom to lead those entrusted to them as subordinates. That they may lead with strength, compassion, empathy, and fairness. That they may lean on and learn from those Non-Commissioned Officers assigned to them.   And finally Father, we ask that you give the parents of these brave young men and women the contentment, strength of heart, and understanding needed to release them on this important journey for the protection of our Country and in the service of God. In the name of the Most Holy Father we pray.  Amen
