45-second Review: The Fool - Film45 - Filmmaking in the Midwest

MSPIFF 2015: This Russian movie about a lowly caretaker/plumber takes a darkly comedic premise about the levels of corruption in small-town Soviet politics and the quite-literally crumbling infrastructure of poverty-stricken people and plays it pretty straight. You'd laugh if you didn't feel so bad. Despite everything going against him, he's determined to make a difference. But at what price? If everybody is happy where they are at, how do you make things better? The cast is pretty good here, and the lead reminds me of a cross between Ethan Hawke and Joseph Gordon Lovett, but the movie is a bit too long.
