Episode 67 – “Special” Teams

September 17, 2014

Jets

First time in forever the Jets score a TD on their first 3 drives. They had this game in the bag. Offense looked good and was clicking. Defense had Rodgers uncomfortable. It was all there for the taking. Then they remember they were the Jets. Let the Packers kick field goal after field goal and then manage to lose the lead. They stop covering Jordy Nelson and they lose their timing on offense. Decker misses several key passes, then hurts his hammy. Run game never really got going. Dee Miliner was a disgrace. Stupidity forced them to use all their timeouts early, 1 just a few minutes into the 3rd quarter.

Giants

Drew Stanton looking like an NFL QB

Victor Cruz dropping balls

Entire Giants O is in disarray.

The Giants put the ‘Special’ in special teams. First they allow Ted Ginn Jr. to juke and jive his way to a punt return TD and then they cough it up on the ensuing kickoff. For all the times Coughlin has appeared confused on the sidelines, this time he very well may be.

Bills

2-0 Buying it?

Saints

0-2

Defense ranked 31 in points allowed, 32nd in passing yards allowed, 22nd in rushing yards allowed. Sean Payton was seen yelling at DC Rob Ryan on the sidelines during the Browns final drive. Moving towards a split or will they work it out.

Who is the better 0-2 team? Colts or Saints?

Vikings

Forgetting about the off the field issues going on with AP, lets focus on the football side of things regarding his future in the NFL and as a member of the Vikings.

-Matt Asiata, Starting this past weekend rushed 13 for 36 and caught 5 for 48 and a td.

Last season starting in 2 games rushed 44 for 166 and 3 td’s. His rushing skills along with Jerick McKinnon who is a speedy cutting/slashing back.

Petersons contract pays him 12.75 next year, 14.75 the following, 15.75 the year after. 43.25 total

Releasing him after this season would cost the vikings 2.4 million. AP will be 30 going into next season. He has over 2,000 carries and 10,000 yards worth of mileage on him.

Redskins

Big surprise here, RGIII is injured. This marks the third consecutive season in which the #2 overall pick will miss playing time due to injury.

Kirk Cousins comes in this past sunday, and despite his opponent being the Jags, he lights it up. Not Peyton Manning lights it up, but Washington Redskins lights it up. He has a .500 record as a starter, but more importantly, he looked comfortable in Jay Grudens offense this past sunday. They were able to run a more balanced attack, throwing 33 times and rushing 40, with the bulk of the carries going to Alfred Morris. He converted half of his 3rd down attempts. If RG3 misses the entire season, and the Skins go 8-8 or better, should Cousins be the started moving foward, or is there still too much invested in the brand RG3 to move on from him?

Not only the 3 years of 1st round picks, but the merchandise, the endorsements (which you know the owners get a kickback from)

Browns

Lose on a last second field goal week 1 and then win on a field goal week 2. The Brian Hoyer led Browns are not 1-1, Hoyer is now 4-1 as a starter. Hoyer led the team on a 14 play, 85 yard drive at the end of the game to put them in scoring position. His numbers weren’t crazy, 24/40 for 250 and 1 td, with 30 rushes to compliment. He is managing the game, not turning the ball over and delivering when it matters. Lets also consider his weapons. His RB’s are Terrence West and Isaiah Crowell (rookies) and his top receivers are Andrew Hawkins and Miles Austin. Thats a less threatening arsenal than the Jets were working with last season. What do the Browns do if Hoyer continues to move this team in the right direction and put them in position to make a run at a wild card spot? Johnny Arena Football?

Ray Rice/Anheuser Busch/double standard. Seriously pulling out or just trying to improve PR image
