Episode-64- Preseason 2014 week 1

August 13, 2014

Texans: hire Bill O’ Brien away from Penn State. They pass up a QB and draft Jadeveon Clowney. They go out and lose 32-0 to the Cardinals. Not only do they get killed, but the Texans D let Carson Palmer go 5 for 5 on his only drive, and rookie Logan Thomas went 11 for 12 in the second half. Where is the Texans secondary? Pressure? Pre-season or not, when you allow nearly 100% completion from the opposing qb, you're not going to win games.

4th rounder Logan Thomas is ballin for Cards. Def. QB of the future.

Andy Dalton:

Deal broke as 6 years, 115 million

Then we find out its 6 years 96 million with escalators for %snaps, and playoff appearances/wins

In reality, its 2 years, 25 million, with a year-to-year contract years 3-6

Andy has been awful in the playoffs, but he’s been to the playoffs. What was the last Bengals QB to go to the playoffs 3 straight years. And he’s done it in his first 3 years. The Bengals have been relevant since he’s been there and the fan base needs to see some commitment from the team.

David Wilson:

First round pick, now retired. Worried about big blue or confident in Rashad Jennings, Peyton Hillis and Andre Williams (who looked like a beast in the hall of fame game)

Hard Knocks this season features the Atlanta Falcons, are you excited? The Falcons were considered a Superbowl contender and one of the teams to go through in the NFC going into last year but stumbled big time and were one of the worst teams in the league by record. Tony Gonzalez is gone, but they haven’t really added and big names this offseason either via free agency or the draft. Devin Hester is really the only noticeable improvement, and 1st round pick OT Jake Matthews. So what are we supposed to look forward to from these falcons, playing in a division with the Saints and the Panthers who got their stuff together last year.

Worried about the Jags.

Draft Blake Bortles as the savior of the franchise, only a few years removed from the Blaine Gabbert era. Bortles comes in as they let go of their bellcow MOJO and Justin Blackmon gets suspended, probably forever. So he’s going to take the field with Cecil Shorts and rookie Marquise Lee at WR and Toby Gerhart at RB. Looking at their depth chart, this looks like a team of replacement players. We both have somewhat of a soft spot for the Jags for some reason, but is this a team that can win more than 2 games this year? Bortles looked great in his brief stint in the first game. Making some quick accurate throws.

Manziel

Jets

Lose CB Dexter McDougle for season. Milliner has high ankle sprain. So their secondary is made up of Kyle Wilson and Darrin Walls at CB and Antonio Allen and Dawan Landry at Safety. 1st round pick Calvin Pryor is still battling back from a concussion.
