Health Failure: What It Looks Like

August 23, 2013

I hope you don’t see yourself in the following story, but frankly this is about health failure and what it’s like.

Some 23 years ago my health was failing in the worst possible way. Take a look. Do you see yourself in any of these symptoms?

  • I was burning the candle at both ends. I was re-married, working a highly stressful job and I was taking care of everyone else but me.

  • I didn’t get enough sleep or relaxation time. I tried, but not hard enough because I wasn’t putting my own health first. That’s because I had not learned that I was vulnerable and that I could fall very ill. When I finally did, it was too late and my family began to suffer, too.

  • After that I spent six months in the bed quite sick…sicker than I had ever been. My health failure had run full circle to point where I was officially an invalid! I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgiaplus more symptoms, however today the illnesses are not really the point I hope you take away from this post.

I had fallen ill because of my own failure to stop, listen to my body and spirit and take the time and attention to let my mind and heart speak their wisdom to me. Later, when I changed all this, my health took a dramatic turn for the better!

    • But at that time, I had few upward ticks in my health. I ultimately was sick, an invalid and truly disabled for fifteen years.

If I had only learned sooner what I know today!

Today, I am no longer ill. I consider myself to 95% HEALTHY! Yes, I still have a few aches and pains, but I am really well compared to where I was 23 years ago when my son was 16. Today, I celebrate not only my health but what tomorrow brings.

Tomorrow for my health, my family’s happiness, and my son’s wedding day, I am extremely grateful for my healing. And in celebration of that, I am hosting my son’s wedding and have done 90% of the decorations. I also am officiating the ceremony since along the way on this health journey, I studied and became an ordained minister. Of all the exciting things I’ve done since gaining that title, the most wonderful event of all will surely be reading my son and his new bride their wedding vows tomorrow.

So I say, please don’t let illness defeat you…no matter what it is. If your health failure has gotten you down, it’s time to get a new picture in your mind, new goals in your heart and a new outcome in your future.

Thanks so much!
