PODCAST: Pamela Hirsch, founder of Baby Quest Foundation to provide financial assistance for fertility treatments
As one of the owners of The Princeton Review, an educational test prep company, Pamela Hirsch’s area of "expertise" was quite removed from anything to do with infertility and the non-profit world as a whole. It was not until her younger daughter experienced over three years of grueling infertility treatments that she learned about the anguish caused by this condition that affects nearly 7.3 million Americans yearly. While being fortunate to be able to help her daughter and son-in-law have two daughters each via a surrogate, she could not imagine the utter frustration many couples feel when confronted with the costs of procedures such as in vitro and surrogacy. So Pamela and her daughter created Baby Quest Foundation, a non-profit charity formed to grant financial assistance to those who cannot afford the high cost of procedures such as artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, and gestational surrogacy. Since its establishment in 2011, Baby Quest has granted 17 awards with 3 babies born, 3 current pregnancies, and several more future hopefuls to undergo procedures shortly.
