Marketing Ideas from a 7 Year-Old

September 30, 2021

Do kids say the craziest things? Maybe we should celebrate their creativity! Here’s a marketing idea from a 7 year-old that turned a few heads. Listen in.

Here’s a Business Idea that Got My Attention.

  • Today, I’m going to not give you marketing tips, but talk about marketing inspiration from a 7-year old boy, whose name is Jorge, from Monterrey, Mexico.
  • After watching one of his favorite shows, Shark Tank Mexico, Jorge decided to sell imaginary friends to real-life friends at school, just for fun.
  • He created backstories for his newfound creations, who he treated just like real people, even making conversation with them in front of peers.
  • This caught everyone’s attention, to the point that kids asked if Jorge could sell them imaginary friends for 20 pesos ($1 USD) each.

Teachers took notice when other kids started talking with their new imaginary friends, and you can imagine what happened next. The call to Jorge’s parents.

Was he in trouble? Depends on how you look at it. His parents said they restricted the amount of time Jorge watched Shark Tank, believing it was the source of the imaginary friend business.

What would you do in this situation? Nurture his business or put the kibosh on his creativity? I know what I’d do.
