The Family of God Matthew 12:46-50 READPsalm 68:6 says that God sets the solitary in families, and that’s true- I love that I am in the Family of God. I have bro an sis all over the world that I love with a deep abiding love. Most people would say that we should love our families and the Biblical truth is that we should1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.The Bible is clear we should take care of our families.The Bible is clear we are to take care of our children and that we should honor our parents. Our birth families deserve honor. Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. But Jesus also makes it clear here (and in other places) that the will of God trumps the will of the family. That our highest devotion, commitment and love should be for God alone.  Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.This is a hard message in a world that idolizes and worships family as the center of everything. Family becomes identity, a thing to worship, and where it becomes a problem is when it gets between you and your relationship with God. I love my family. Love my wife and kids.  But I’m not going to let my relationship with them get in the way of my relationship with God and doing his will. No way. Not doing that. Lets talk a bit about the family of God, priorities and doing the will of God. 

The family of God 

Family was instituted by God. There are actually 4 governments instituted by God, Civil, Ecclesiastical, individual and Family government. There is government established within Families ordained by God. Man and Woman married, procreating, raising kids to know JesusThis family unit was established by God in Genesis and perpetuates throughout the Bible. All throughout the Bible- the lineages of families are part of the process for Global salvation. The Bible, in many places uses the descriptors of a family unit as the descriptor of the family of God- that means that God values family, that he desires families to show his gloryThese people whom you gather with to worship with and spend time with are not merely your fellow attenders at this church. We’re a household of God- he is the Father we are his kids- (this is why I reject that we are all God’s children) – we weep, show joy, live together, live lifeGalatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are the household of faith (my closest friends are Christian- they share the same love) I attended a gym with people. I worked with people. I live on a street with people. But the family of God is much different- the church is much different. The Bible says that we are the Body of Christ- that Ephesians 4:16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.Which simultaneously gives credence to the value of earthly family to be used as an example of the family of God while also elevating the family of God. It says we’re the children of God 1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in his name. It says we’re adopted- Ephesians 1:5 Having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of His will1 timothy uses these examples of how a church family should operate1 Tim 5:1 Do not rebuke an older man,
