How To Speak Like You Mean It

March 18, 2015

I have become recognized at this point in my life by those who know me best for my strong speaking ability.  In this episode I want to share just a few quick pointers any one of us can implement into our approach to public speaking.  You will find that the mindset I use is easily applicable in many different situations, such as : preaching, bible studies, witnessing, teaching sessions, coaching sessions, motivational speeches, interviews, and even podcasting.

     Firstly
Recognize that your 2 cents is only valuable at certain times.  You don't always have to share your opinion or express every thought that passes through your little mind.  There are times when your opinion will be sought after and your words will at that point hold more value because you have been patiently waiting for the right time to share them.
     Secondly
Understand that your audience does not change who you are.  When you want to be the most effective and speak in a way that provides the most meaning, DO NOT PERFORM.  Your goal is not to put on a show.  Your goal is to provide authenticity.  Deliver your whole heart in hopes of reaching just one other person's.  You will affect many others.
     Thirdly
Do not attempt or pretend to be profound or polished.  There is nothing new under the sun.  Every great thought you have in God is generated by Him.  He gives illumination of His Word.  These things don't come because your intellect is so great.  He is simply revealing something to you and opening your understanding of things that have always been there.  The greatest thing you can do is openly give God Glory for allowing you to share what He has freely given to you.
     Lastly
Be passionate.  Be Plain.  The word "plain" has such a negative connotation.  It is however a powerful approach to life.  To be authentic, to be real, to be transparent in sharing your experiences and what God has laid on your heart can have the greatest effect on another person's life.  Being plain however is much, much harder than it seems.
What Are Your Approaches To Speaking Like You Mean It?

Scriptures I Quote in This Episode
John 16:25

25  These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

Hebrews 11:13-14

13  These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

14  For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
