Great Lakes 100 Mile Triathlon : Video, Course & Discount Code!

September 19, 2013

Looking for a late season triathlon? Something a bit out of the box? Longer than a 1/2 Ironman and shorter than a full Ironman? A race that Triathlon magazine ranks in the top five with the coolest SWAG? A race that not only offers triathlon but aquabike as well? A race on Lake Ontario near Buffalo on October 5th where it can be still or windy, sunny and 75 or snowing, flat water or three foot swells? Then THIS IS THE RACE FOR YOU!

Course: From the official website of the 100 Mile Triathlon

The Swim – 1 Mile

When was the last time you swam in open water?  In other words, a body of water you can’t see across?  A body of water subject to wind, and fetch, and swell, and tremendous currents?  An enormous body of water with scores of shipwrecks on its floor, over half a league beneath the silvery surface?  The Great Lakes are nothing less than a collection of fresh water inland seas.

The Bike – 84 Miles

Your survival efforts in the swim will be rewarded with a scenic 84 mile bike ride through the Great Lakes Region, passing briefly through historic towns.  The courses are fairly flat and fast with some rolling hills and mild climbs.  This is a truly beautiful, challenging and historically significant region of the United States.  Expect the weather to vary from mild temperatures and sunny skies to raging, cold gale force wind and rain – often in the same day.  Occasionally, within the very same hour.

The Run – 15 Miles

It’ll all seem worthwhile as you trot gracefully along the 15 mile run course, soaking in the tranquility of the lake shore and the vast Great Lakes scenery.  The run courses are designed to be friendly.  They are fairly flat with a few gently rolling dips.  History and scenery abound.
