DL091: Harry Lime ~ How to date a woman when you're broke

May 04, 2017

Too Good To Be True: When Harry takes his new lady friend, the airline hostess, to the Cabala nightclub, he is mystified by her dancing and apparent wealth. Is she really who she says she is? It's my treat! Harry treats his new lady friend, the airline hostess, to dinner and dancing at the Cabala cabaret (or nightclub). He learns her name is Patsy, but he believes it is an alias — not her real name. When he goes to leave he finds out he wasn’t the one treating. She paid the check! She tries to convince him that she can afford it, but he can’t believe it. Male Chauvinist: Harry feels that it’s not right for the woman to pay. After all, she must not make much money. Men's jobs always pay more than women's, so when you take a woman out on a date, the man should pay. That sounds honorable, but Harry is probably okay with things the way they are, the 'status quo'. He doesn't want to try to change it; in fact, he's uncomfortable with Patsy changing it. This reveals that he is a male chauvinist. He probably thinks men are better than women, more intelligent than women, and deserving of higher pay. To him, men and women are not equal. Harry is still in for a few more surprises with Patsy!
