Elfman And America's Got Talent's Michael Grimm (@Michael_Grimm)

April 23, 2015

America's Got Talent winner Michael Grimm talks boar hunting, not acting for Steven Spielberg, where to eat in Vegas for New Orleans food, what's so great about Otis Redding, how we're spoiled in Las Vegas, and how he writes in the shower but doesn't sing in the shower. Michael Grimm has a residency coming up at the Hard Rock Hotel, plus a new album, in addition to a Southern food and music gig the weekend this podcast comes out. You can keep up with him at michaelgrimmmusic.com and facebook.com/MichaelGrimmMusic.
1. Welcome back! I love you!
2. (3:30): Is your wife your Sharon Osbourne?
3. (5:00): He knew someone who died in Katrina.
4. (7:00): What's it like to go boar and deer hunting?
5. (12:30): What's it like to perform and compete in Las Vegas — and to remember all the names of people he meets?
6. (17:00): We do some rah-rah Vegas talk. But we do miss New Orleans crawfish, gumbo and shellfish in the desert so we tell you where to eat Cajun Vegas.
7. (21:30): His favorite view is seeing Vegas from the plane coming home. "We're spoiled and we love it." Vegas isn't ruined by closed cliques like in other cities.
8. (26:30) To record an album right, you still need good studio work.
9. (29:30): What Piers said to him. Simon winked at me. Cheech was nice to him. CD release party on May 23 at Vinyl in the Hard Rock Hotel.
10. (31:15): New music is rock and melancholy without many love songs, but the melancholy isn't because he's bummed out but because there's some 'grim' stuff on it.
11. (33:15): His favorites include Otis and Ray Charles.
12. (36:00): He got turned onto Otis Redding by "Dirty Dancing," a movie you don't often hear men reference.
13. (38:00): He's had offers to be in movies, and he did a movie trailer, but he didn't like the feeling of acting. :I can barely listen to myself sing, let alone watch myself for the first time try to act in something." What he told Spielberg's people. He'd love to have Terry Fator like residency but what separates them is Fator knows business better.
14. (43:15): He's going to the former Czechoslovakia.
15. (45:30): He doesn't sing in the shower or car much, so I give him a tune he can use.Â
