Episode 17- Organic Gardening Principles Part 1: Soil

November 23, 2014

The word "Organic" is widely used to describe many widely varied methods of gardening and agriculture.  Many methods which are called organic are not consistent with the principles of organic agriculture as envisioned by the early founders of the organic movement or by modern proponents.  When we we were new to organic methods it was terribly confusing to us what methods were really organic and what direction we should be taking in our journey to create healthier foods and a highy productive garden.
For that reason we are publishing these podcasts in an effort to clear the air about what we mean when we say "organic", to make clear why and how these methods are superior, and to help make clear the sound science behind these organic methods we bring you this series of podcasts in which we will explore the principles or organic agriculture and the concepts behind them.
We hope that this information is helpful to you and leaves you with an understanding of what organinc methods are and the science behind them.  We also hope to help you create an understanding of your soil and the natural systems that you interact with when you are growing food, an understanding that will help you to be a more effective gardener and will help you grow healthier food in a more sustainable way.
Most importantly we hope that this series of podcasts will motivate you to use organic methods of agriculture to create for yourself a better quality of life!
