Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” The way in which this is typically taught is that if you raise your child to know and fear God, he will stay on the straight and narrow for the rest of his life.

Dan Phillips, however, explains that that is not the meaning of this verse – at all.
