Expert Tips on Healing the Coronavirus: Interview with Dr. Aaron Orpelli

March 30, 2020

The big scary news across the country is that a variant of the deadly flus, like MERS and SARS, is sweeping the world. The first big cases were recognized out of China, which has about half the current known cases, while it is being recognized throughout the rest of the world now and called the COVID-19 or the 19th variant of the coronavirus.

Dr. Aaron Orpelli has been dealing with similar viruses during the 25 years of his integrative medicine practice here in the greater Los Angeles area. He is all about helping others get well from things that conventional medicine generally fails to heal, such as Lyme disease, allergies, fibromyalgia, digestive problems and autoimmune issues. This is why he and I are in such alignment.

Here are some highlights from the interview on the coronavirus:

Coronovirus facts: The virus is transmitted by respiratory droplets. It is a variation on the earlier coronavirus, such as MERS and SARS. Symptoms include fever, dry cough, fatigue, and shortness of breath. Once you're infected, you can be contagious for over 37 days. The virus can live on hard surfaces upto 10 days at room temp and at colder temperatures, up to 18 days.

Using a mask is useles to protect you from contracting the virus because of the longevity on hard surfaces. It will protect others from getting from you, however.

There are no medications to heal a virus.

Actions to take to help:

Instead of anti-bacterial soaps and lotions, use those with alcohol. It kills up to 70% of the virus present. Even better is to wash your hands with soap and hot water. To do it properly, wet hands thoroughly above your wrists, rub with soap, between fingers, to wrist, under your nails and lather for a good while then rise for at least 20 seconds. Then dry well with a clean towel. Don't touch the faucet; use your towel instead.

Touch your face as little as possible if at all.

Clean your living space.

If you feel sick, call your doctor.

Improve your immune system by doing the following:

Lower your stress levels, meditation, walking, get some fresh air. Chiropractic adjustment of the neck has been shown to stimulate the immune system. If your adrenals are firing stress hormones, the body is not healing and repairing. It is tearing your body down.

Get plenty of good quality sleep.

Lower your intake of sugar. One can of soda has 7 tsp sugar, which will depress your immune system for four hours if you are 150 lbs. Some medications stress the immune system. Drinking diet soda doesn't help if it has aspartame, sucralose or saccharine in it because it will destroy your microbiome.

Supplements that can help:

Eat bitter foods. The taste of bitter foods can stimulate your immune system: such as frisee, kale, dandelion greens, brussel sprouts, arugula, bitter melon, and dill are some examples.

To self diagnose any kind of lung problem or infection: inhale deeply and hold for 30 seconds. If you don't react, you are okay.
