DeKnumi Podcast Episode 33

May 21, 2014

In this episode, we introduce our newly reformatted show with a blockbuster interview with outgoing Southern Baptist Convention President, Rev. Fred Luter, Jr. Pastor Fred leads the congregation at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana. Pastor Fred is truly a "Friend of Pastors." I met him in 1996 shortly after I started classes at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
He became pastor at FABC in 1986 at a time when only 50 members were attending worship. Today, thousands attend at the New Orleans Campus, and due to the effects of Katrina, thousands more attend their two other campii in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and in Houston, Texas. Pastor Fred became the first ever African American President of the Southern Baptist Convention two years ago, and is stepping down from that post during the upcoming SBC Convention in Charlotte, NC in June, 2014.
He offers tremendous passion, knowledge and experience in the practice of revitalizing churches, dealing with crisis and leading a church to deal with a transitioning neighborhood, all at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church for the past 28 years.
