Women tend to live longer than men in the general population—but the opposite is true for dialysis patients. Adding to that conundrum is that, according to a large-scale analysis published in Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, women on dialysis experience nearly 2.1 hospitalizations per year and men about 1.7 when adjusted for comorbidities. While we can’t draw an ultimate conclusion with these data points, they do make for an interesting conversation.
