Sara Guerrero is rad. When I asked her if she'd do my podcast she immediately said yes and, then invited me into her home and fed me coffee and cookies! She is one of the good ones: doing great work for all the right reasons. Please join me as I talk with Sara about Breath of Fire, her influences, and her aspirations. Ring in '16 with Ep 16!
Sara Guerrero is the founding ​artistic ​director of the award​-winning, Santa Ana-based Breath of Fire Latina Theater Ensemble (breathoffire.org) where she was named "Best [Artistic] Director" by OC Weekly. ​Guerrero is a versatile actor, writer, producer, director, teacher and theatre arts advocate. She has been a guest artist, faculty member, lecturer and panelist to many schools, universities, conservatories, organizations, programs focused on creating theatre with, by and for underserved communities. Currently she is the resident guest director for UC Irvine's Brown Bag Theater Co where she lectures and directs graduate and undergrad students on and through selected works that are reflective of the Latin@ experience on campus and in Orange County. Currently she is co-producing PLACAS  by Paul S. Flores 
(barrio slang for body tattoos) a bilingual tale of fathers and sons, transformation and redemption due out this February 2016 for the youth and families of the Santa Ana Community. She is a long standing faculty member of South Coast Repertory Conservatory (SCR), a founding member of Latina performance group, Slip of the Tongue and an active member of The Latino Theater Alliance​, working to update the Latina/o narrative in American theatre. Additionally, she has served as the community engagement director ​for SCR’s Dialogue/Diálogos Project (two year community theatre​-making project) and was producing associate to the project’s production, El Largo Camino de Hoy / The Long Road Today by José Cruz González. She has been the associate artistic director for Teatro Indigena, arts project coordinator of the Orange County Arts Council, ​resident playwright and theatre arts faculty member for Upward Bound of Cal State University​, Long Beach, ​resident playwright for the Education Outreach Program for Los Angeles County, teaching artist to Community Arts Partnership's (CAP) Plaza de La Raza Theater Program and to social justice theatre company, Fringe Benefits.
