Ep.21 Coronavirus: Sneezes and Coughs fly farther than we thought - up to 25 feet. Here is the best DIY mask you can make in 2 minutes.

April 07, 2020

You need to protect yourself from the coronavirus if you go out in public. And this includes avoiding exposure to even distant sneezes and coughs. According to breaking MIT research, “The next time you feel a sneeze coming on, raise your elbow to cover up that multiphase turbulent buoyant cloud you’re about to expel. “When you cough or sneeze, you see the droplets, or feel them if someone sneezes on you,” says John Bush, a professor of applied mathematics at MIT, and co-author of a new paper on the subject. “But you don’t see the cloud, the invisible gas phase. The influence of this gas cloud is to extend the range of the individual droplets, particularly the small ones.” The new limit of safety is 25 feet from someone who is ill with COVID-19 and coughs or sneezes. You may not be able to avoid this exposure so a face mask becomes a necessity. Here we show how far a sneeze can spread droplet. We also show one of the easiest to make do it yourself (DIY) protective face mask.
