#14 – Allen Wilterdink: Succeeding In Online Business

October 30, 2014

Words Allen lives by:

"Know the true value of you time. Snatch, seize and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness, no laziness and no procrastination, never put off til tomorrow what you can do today."

"None of us are as dumb as all of us."

What keeps Allen moving?

The drive to serve his clients as best he can.

Biggest challenge:

Allen was a remedial student and to this day is not good at spelling. He recalls a career day where he was told if he tried really hard he could be a garbage man one day. He was able to work on his education pathway and learnt computer skills such as coding so that he could eventually get into the business world.

Best business advice ever received:

To find mentors who not only will respect you, but will also correct you.

What Allen is excited about:

Marketing and community building within the marketing. Specifically creating and building out forums.
About Allen:
My name is Allen Wilterdink (feel free to have fun with that) I am a 32 year old Executive for Income Store/ Today’s Growth Consultant. Prior to starting with TGC/IS, I worked as an Information Technology Manager for a trade show marketing company in New Orleans. After school in Philadelphia my girlfriend (now my wife) and I decided we wanted to move south. My father had just relocated to New Orleans for business so it was a logical place. We moved to the city and instantly fell in love with its charm. I was fortunate enough that after a few months working retail jobs, I was given an opportunity to work for a convention service company. I was made the IT manager on my second day. I was extremely happy to have found a job that I enjoyed waking up for.

Sadly less than a year later the whole business was destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The convention center was no longer a functional facility. We decided to stick it through and over the following three years I did everything from build moving pods, haul rigging equipment, to running the retail website and sales team the New Orleans Saints. Once the convention industry returned, I returned to work for the same husband and wife that owned the service company as an office administrator and IT/Networking manager. In February of 2012 I moved on to something with more career growth, shortly after my wife and I welcomed our first child.

That was when I started working for TGC/ Income Store as a developer/designer. A skill set I had let rust for almost 10 years. After getting a taste of the company culture I threw myself at becoming more than just a mid-level hire, by the end of the following year I was promoted to the Marketing Director position. Although I over saw a team of people, I still spent the majority of my time doing development and programing tasks. In the latter half of the following year. Our Chief Operating Officer stepped down to pursue a job in software marketing. In October of 2013 I took over as Chief Operating Officer of TGC/IS. I began to restructure the company’s culture and methods under the guidance of Ken Courtright and a select group of mentors. We have since almost tripled the number of employees, and nearly doubled the number of web properties we currently maintain and market. As of the middle of September, I will be moving back to Pennsylvania to take our company even further by directly working with our Chief Marketing Officer Dave Conklin and Our Creative Director John Georgilis who are both located in Lancaster PA.
