#11 - Heather Porter: Taking Personal Responsibility

October 14, 2014

Favorite Quote:

“If it is to be it is up to me!”.  Ask for and accept feedback and  make sure you are taking personal responsibility for your own life.

On feedback:

1. Look at where the person is coming from and through which filters they see you.

2. Distance yourself from the feedback as though you are a third person listening in. This helps to really understand how to apply it.

Challenges…

The biggest thing Heather overcame was realizing that she needed to get away from her peer group in order to grow and reach her potential. She made the move from San Diego to Sydney, Australia! Listen to your heart and watch who you choose to listen to for advice.

There is no time like the present…

If you feel like you are playing small in yourself you probably are. Surround yourself with the types of people who you want to be like and who want for you.

What can listeners do this week to move forward?

Less learning, more action! We are bombarded by resources everywhere right now – instead of buying the latest gadget or course, join a mastermind, get mentors or do something else to take action! Heather uses a 90 Day Plan and works to make 2 steps every day towards that plan. Be very specific about making a move towards the growth of your business if you are in business.

One thing that excites Heather in her business…

The launch of Online Masterplan Series! This is to help people learn to delegate important tasks within their business, then pass on the learning on social media marketing. It’s about overcoming online overwhelm and simplifying what you really need to know as an entrepreneur.

About Heather:

Heather Porter is a Digital Strategist and Co-Founder of Autopilot Your Business, a Digital Marketing Agency that she runs along with Andrew McCauley. She started as an event producer and promoter for her own production company running art, fashion and music events in Southern CA while doing a stint as an entertainment editor for a magazine. From there she moved on to manage events for some of the world’s most well-known speakers, including Tony Robbins and Christopher Howard.

Throughout her journey, Heather learnt to create marketing systems and products that leveraged the large followings of these speakers and delved into the world of online tools and marketing. She is an expert in digital marketing and driving traffic to websites and puts this knowledge to use in her business.

Heather is the author of two Amazon best-selling books, produces a digital magazine and hosts two podcasts which are listened to in more than 70 countries. Along with Andrew she also helps to run the Digital Traffic Institute, a membership program which gives members direct access to her and Andrew and teaches them strategies to drive traffic to their websites. They also produce a weekly TV show, Make It Simple TV where they interview successful experts and glean simple tips from them.
