For sure, PBS is not going to be off the air for three weeks or longer, …

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Brownsville is set to finalize what some are calling an almost secret sale of the local PBS affiliate due to financial struggles this week.

According to reports, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting had warned that the diocese needed to look for other sources of revenue and not depend on its own ability to underwrite the station. There have also been complaints by the public that the programming was being censored, tailored to the interests of the Catholic church.

There Are Other Options

One of the best options is KEDT. KEDT, the PBS affiliate in Corpus Christi, has expressed an interest in providing public broadcasting with MBTV Texas Valley or another broadcaster in the Rio Grande Valley.

They were providing public broadcasting in the Rio Grande Valley before the diocese bought the license in 1983.

How You Can Help

The Rio Grande Valley Equal Voice Network has a petition you can sign online encouraging Federal Communications Chairman Tom Wheeler to stop the sale of KMBH-TV.
