What is the value of affiliates?

November 18, 2014

Are you an advertiser wondering whether an affiliate program will benefit your organisation? Do you want to know more about the value of affiliates for advertisers? Affiliate marketing is one way to expand the reach of your products, grow traffic and increase your revenue. But their value can go much further than that as this podcast aims to demonstrate.

If you are looking for those secrets on how to get the most out of your affiliate links then invest 20 minutes to listen to this edition of Chaos Makes Sense where your host Kimberly Henrie interviews Matt Frary, CEO of SmarterChaos and Dirk McGregor from JewelScent Inc. This week they will be talking about what value affiliates offer advertisers.

Dirk’s History

Dirk begins the episode by telling us about his current position. JewelScent Inc is an online seller of candles that contain rings ranging in value from $10 to $7,500. He joined the company after reaching out to a colleague after his last projected ended. At the same time, JewelScent Inc was in need of an online media and marketing acquisition expert.

For the past 10 years, Dirk has run affiliate programs for every organisation he has worked for. He estimates that he has therefore managed between 10 and 12 different affiliate programs. This is also the third time that Dirk has been a SmarterChaos client.

Due to his experience, Dirk has a lot of knowledge about running affiliate campaigns and how to make them successful, from an advertiser’s point of view.

The Value Of Affiliates

According to Dirk, the value of an affiliate is very subjective. The more effort you are willing to put into your program and the more your partners and affiliates contribute, the higher the rewards.

Strong communications are a vital component if you want your campaigns to be highly successful. Dirk explains that those who simply have an affiliate campaign because they think they should; often struggle to have a successful program. However, those that are regularly contacting their affiliates are more likely to meet campaign expectations.

Affiliates can also contribute to the refining of your other marketing campaigns. They can provide information on what is proving to be a success at generating traffic and revenue. This relationship can work both ways, as Matt suggests, with your business passing on information to your affiliates on what coupons, landing pages, content or promotions are performing well.

Because of this, Dirk and Matt believe that you should be treating your affiliates as partners.

Tips For Running A Successful Advertiser Affiliate Program

During the podcast, Dirk provides tips on how your business can develop a successful relationship with your affiliates that will drive traffic and sales. During the podcast, the two experts answer the following questions:

- What is Dirk’s number one tip for running a successful campaign?
- What three elements create the perfect advertiser-affiliate partnership?
- What is the difference between affiliates now and in the past?
- How has blogging changed the market?
- What is the future of affiliate marketing for advertisers?
