After Peter said that Jesus was the Son of God, Jesus began to tell His disciples about His coming death and resurrection. Peter rebuked Jesus for saying these things because, in his mind, the Messiah’s role was to save this earthly kingdom and make it better for his people.

Peter was looking from a human prospective; one that is limited and shallow. Like Peter, we can have a partial understanding of who Jesus is and misunderstand the plan of God. As Christians, we are called to lay down our life daily and look to God to see what His plans are for our lives. It’s his will, not ours. To find true life in Christ we have to be prepared to lose our life to gain what God has in stored for us.
