Setting The Stage - Minimal Vs Elaborate - C1G 010

April 25, 2015

Set design for a production is integral for creating a good show, but sometimes less is more. In Episode 10 of Cue One Go - The Theatre Show, Toni and Mike weigh in on the topic of stage sets and some important things to consider when deciding whether to go minimal or elaborate.

Show Notes:
Here are some things to consider when deciding whether to build a minimal vs elaborate set.

- Your budget
- Requirements of the script
- The Director's vision
- Is it a concept piece?
- Space constraints (deep stage, no wings space, large house, no flyspace, etc.)
-Model building (important for getting your ideas across to others)
- How much small detail is necessary?
- Time period of the script
- Choosing colors and patterns to evoke mood
- Lighting enhancement

There are a lot of decisions to make in order to optimize your stage setting for the overall best experience. When in doubt, don't be afraid to ask for help from experienced designers and directors.
