Building With BuildHer

Lighting your build to tell a story with Danielle from Lights Lights Lights

May 18, 2022

Everything in life is 2 dimensional without light. The lighting in your home should be unique to your needs and tell a story.

My guest today is the remarkable Danielle, one of the directors and owners from Lights Lights Lights. We absolutely love her at BuildHer and she works on all our houses by incorporating her incredible designs into every build.

Danielle and the owners at Lights Lights Lights opened the business with the mission to educate customers, they didn’t want people to just buy a light and go home. They’re passionate about helping people learn about all different types of lighting and how to use it within your spaces.

In this episode, Danielle is talking about everything to consider when planning, choosing and installing lights for both a new build or when renovating your home. She is a big advocate for a holistic approach as you shouldn’t just be popping in a downlight, you’re deciding and mapping out a specific fitting with a specific beam angle, colour temperature and lens.

Sounds like a lot to consider? Don’t worry! Danielle is here to help.

We discuss how important it is to include lighting from the very beginning in the planning stages to make sure the lighting tells the story of the house and is not just an afterthought. As your build evolves, your selections and choices evolve in partnership with the lighting.

The way the light is produced is far more important than how ostentatious the light fitting appears. Less is definitely more and Danielle will help you design everything.

Your selection should be an extension of your architecture except when you want to make a statement piece but don’t have too many or it’ll be overwhelming!

Danielle is a wealth of information when designing the lighting in your home, I’m very grateful to have her on the show today to share her expertise. Grab a pen and paper and jot down her tips for incorporating lighting into your next build to tell your design story.
