On this episode of the Bros 4 America Podcast, the panel welcomes special guests Chrissy Watson and Philip Germain, organizers of the March for our Lives – Los Angeles rally happening on March 24, 2018. Like many young people across America, they are responding to the #NeverAgain movement, lead by the grief-stricken high school students at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Last week, an 18-year old gunman, equipped with semi-automatic assault weapons which he had legally purchased and modified, opened fire on and killed 17 of his classmates in what would become one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history, and frighteningly the 18th school shooting to happen in 2018 ALONE. But rather than become merely another statistic, the students fought back, hard, inspiring a movement that is aimed at toppling the National Rifle Association and it’s stranglehold over politics once and for all.
Those inspired by the movement included Chrissy Watson and Philip Germain, two of the organizers of the March for our Lives – Los Angeles march that will correspond with the national march on Washington D.C. this coming March 24, 2018.  While Germain, 20, describes a breadth of political experience at his ripe old age, Watson explained that she’d never really become involved before. Until now.
“I just decided to create the Facebook page for an LA event [to show support for the march on Washington D.C.],” Watson told the panel on the Bros 4 America Podcast. “I had no idea that it would end up snowballing into us partnering with the Women’s March and [other major organizations.]”
When the event began to gain traction, she decided she should actually organize the event, not just wait for someone else to take the reigns. A client manager at a digital marketing company by day, Watson had no idea when she created the Facebook page March for Our Lives Los Angeles that it would unlock a passion for standing alongside these incredible students to make a change.
Watson stressed the importance of civic engagement and activism, and called her fellow young people to get involved at any level 0r to any degree.
“Activism can be any thing you want it to be. It can start with a tweet,” replied moderator Alex Mohajer, the self-professed ‘Whoopi Goldberg’ of the program.
Watson’s partner in the effort, Philip Germain, is a 20-year-old Political Science major who has already cut his teeth in the political world. He runs his own non-profit, CA25 United for Progress,  which works to register and inform young people in California’s 25th Congressional district (whose current Republican representative in the United States House is none-other than repeat offender Steve Knight, and who Bros4America is also currently working to unseat).
